Eligibility to participate on CE is generally linked to those who are 21 years or over and in receipt of a qualifying social welfare payment for 1 year or more or 18 years and over for certain disadvantaged groups. Your eligibility will have to be verified by the Department.

Applicants should supply suitable character references and be prepared to complete a Garda vetting application form.



Duties

This is a developmental opportunity, no experience necessary. Accredited training will be provided to support your career.

The YMCA Dublin Youth Services team caters for young people from the age of 10-24. The team actively engages with young people in the local community to support both the young people and their families. Youth Work provides a fun, safe environment where young people have the opportunity to engage in activities that encourage personal growth, develop life skills through voluntary engagement, and meet new people. 

The Youth Services Assistant with Detached Specialism will work with young people at a street level and will also be involved in working with referrals and liaising with other members of the YMCA Dublin team both within and outside of the YMCA.

Key Responsibilities Youth Work:
Engaging with young people appropriately during youth clubs or group mentoring sessions
School provision
Acting as a positive role model.
Support in developing and facilitating activities with the young people
Supervising the young people on trips and outdoor activities.
Working with team members to plan weekly programmes and daily activities.
Assisting in completing daily handover and attendance
Assisting in out of term activities with the young people including trips,events etc.
Undertaking practical training in youth work, play work, child protection etc.
Conducting Outreach through walkabouts, community engagement and interactions. 
Any other duties related to the delivery of YMCA Youth Services.
To abide by YMCA Policies and Procedures, including Child Protection and Health & Safety.

Key Responsibilities Detached Specialism:
Engaging with young people appropriately in non-venue-based settings (e.g., streets, parks, estates) during detached youth work.
Where possible, link detached contact to school‑based support and referrals to other services that can benefit the young person's social, cultural and health wellbeing.
Acting as a positive role model in community environments.
Support in developing and facilitating activities with the young people on their own territory.
Supervising the young people during off‑site detached sessions.
Working with the co-ordinator to plan weekly routes and engaging activities that are based on the needs encountered through engagement.
Assisting in completing the handover.
Undertaking practical training in Detached youth work, trauma-informed practice, child protection, etc., with a focus on teamwork and street safety.
Any other duties related to the delivery of YMCA Youth Services in community settings.
To abide by YMCA Policies and Procedures, including Child Protection and Health & Safety in both centre‑based and detached environments.

Employment Details:
Hours: 19.5 hours per week (part-time)
Schedule:  Afternoons & Evenings: Wednesday 12:30pm - 6:00pm, Thursday and Friday 2:00pm - 7:15pm & Saturdays 2:00-7:00 Flexibility required. 
Location:  Dublin 2 and Dublin 8. 
Support: Laptop provided, regular supervision, access to training
Eligibility: Applicants must be eligible for Community Employment under DSP criteria
