This Work Placement Experience Programme provides Participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. This programme is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme or an ETB Training Allowance. Your eligibility for this programme will be verified by the Department as part of the application process.


As a Cafe Assistant the participant will be supported in learning how to contribute to and maintain a busy work environment while gaining valuable hands-on experience across various aspects of restaurant operations.

This placement is designed to provide you with practical skills and knowledge in food storage and food service, hygiene management, stock management, and HACCP protocols and exposure to industry- standard practices and procedures that can be applied in future roles.  You will be working in a supportive learning environment with guidance from experienced professionals in the field.  This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals looking to gain valuable practical experience.  The kitchen & cafe assistant will support the general running of all restaurant areas.

 
This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection. This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP.

Formal Training:
•	Manual Handling
•	Food Safety & HACCP, including cleaning, chemical use, food preparation, cooking, plating & display
•	Barista, including a knowledge of coffee types, trends & regular v alternative milks

Informal Training:
•	Stock rotation
•	Cleanliness of Food preparation area to ensure a safe, hygienic and secure working environment is maintained at all times
•	Handling chemical cleaning agents in a safe and controlled manner
•	Customer service - ensuring all customers, both new and existing, leave the cafe having enjoyed a positive, welcoming and enjoyable experience
