The Warehouse Shift Manager holds management responsibility for the operation of the warehouse across the assigned shift. The postholder manages a team of 6–15 warehouse staff, is accountable for the productivity and output of that team, owns the accuracy of inventory and system records for the shift, and is the decision-making authority for operational issues arising during the shift. Management Responsibilities Team Management Manage a team of 6–15 warehouse staff across the shift, holding day-to-day accountability for their performance, conduct and output. Plan and set labour allocation across the shift, determining how the team is deployed against workload and operational priorities. Own the shift roster, including approval of leave and management of absence and attendance. Conduct performance conversations with team members; identify underperformance and manage it through the company’s performance process. Participate in recruitment for the shift team, including interviewing and making hiring recommendations. Participate in disciplinary and grievance processes affecting the shift team in line with company procedure. Performance and Reporting Own the shift’s KPI set, including labour productivity, order accuracy, dispatch performance and inventory accuracy. Produce, validate and distribute daily operational reporting to internal departments and senior management. Analyse operational performance data, identify trends and root causes, and implement corrective measures within the shift. Report on shift performance to senior management and contribute to operational planning. Systems and Inventory Hold responsibility for the integrity of Navision records and the warehouse grid for the shift. Ensure all stock movements and customer orders are accurately processed and reconciled. Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies arising during the shift. Development and Training Identify training needs across the shift team and plan and deliver on-the-job training. Induct and develop new team members to operational competence. Build capability within the team to reduce dependency on individual staff. Interdepartmental Liaison Act as the point of contact for the shift with transport, customer service, commercial and other internal departments. Communicate operational status, risks and delays to stakeholders in a timely manner. Candidate Requirements Minimum [3–5] years’ experience managing a team in a warehouse, distribution or logistics environment. Demonstrable experience of managing staff performance, including attendance, conduct and productivity. Experience operating a warehouse management system; Navision or Microsoft Dynamics strongly preferred. Proven ability to own and report against operational KPIs. Strong analytical capability, including intermediate or advanced Excel. Fluent English, written and spoken.
