Are you interested in a career in engineering, yet want to explore non traditional entry routes to those provided through the university system?

We are partnering with Solas and Atlantic Technological University (ATU) to appoint, support and train an individual to become a future engineer through a recognised apprenticeship programme.

We are currently seeking one individual, to be based in our Naas office, as an Apprentice Civil Engineer/ Apprentice Civil Engineer Technician.

Apprentice Civil Engineer - The role
Once successful in the job offer and the designated apprenticeship programme you will:
•    Assist our graduate senior engineers, to gain hands-on experience in civil engineering projects. Learn about design, construction, and project management.
•    In conjunction, with your remote studies at ATU, undertake in-house and external training in such topics as: 
    * the use of 3D design software and the development of geometry designs for roads, greenways and active travel schemes;
    * the use of drainage and flood study software and the development of drainage designs, culvert designs and flood risk assessments;
    * ancillary design elements associated with roads, greenways and active travel schemes.
•    Following training, employ new skills on projects under the guidance of senior engineers. 
•    Carry out site walkovers with senior engineers to examine engineering and environmental constraints associated with new projects at feasibility and constraints stage; observing construction processes, safety protocols and quality control measures.
•    Maintain accurate project records and assist and support engineers in same, developing report writing and communication skills.
•    Any other duties, as deemed necessary, that fall within the remit and level of the position.

Working on various transport, travel and water-based projects, the successful candidate will be provided with training to develop their engineering skills and abilities and contribute to projects of significant importance.  

What you need – the qualifications, skills and requirements
•    Leaving Certificate or equivalent with Pass Grade in Maths at Level 5
•    Accepted to the Level 6 or Level 7 Civil Engineering apprenticeship programme at ATU
•    Strong literacy, verbal and numeracy skills.
•    Good IT/ computer skills
•    Positive attitude and willingness to learn with a passion for engineering
•    Willing to develop by attending training 
•    Current and ongoing right to work in the Republic of Ireland
•    Attendance at college one day per week for online classes and one week residential study during the summer.
