This Work Placement Experience Programme provides Participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. This programme is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme or an ETB Training Allowance. Your eligibility for this programme will be verified by the Department as part of the application process.
Applicants should supply suitable character references and be prepared to complete a Garda vetting application form. The participant will gain practical experience hands on with patient care, assisting patients when they arrive for renal dialysis treatments and providing care during their treatment. They will learn about renal dialysis, health & nutrition for renal care patients and technical knowledge of how dialysis works and the machines involved. All our systems are digital so they will also gain training and knowledge of documentation and computer skills using 365 Office. The participant will be assigned to a Health Care Assistant and will perform their tasks along side them for the duration of the placement. They will undergo health and safety training, training on patient care protocols and also in house procedures and processes. They will also spend time assisting the nursing staff while performing renal dialysis on patients. They will also shadow our Patient Care Technicians who put on and take off patients on dialysis and they will see how a Health Care Assistant can progress to this role. They will be monitored by the Clinic Manager and all training records both formal and informal will be given to the participant on their finishing of experience placement.
This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection. This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP. Formal training: - Renal module training for all staff -Health & Safety Training - Nutrition Training for dialysis patients by our Renal Dietitian. Informal training: - How we meet/greet and assist the patients on arriving and leaving. -Providing care during their treatment. -Stock ordering system.
