Requirements and Principal Duties of a Mechanical Maintenance Fitter:
•	Undertake installations, maintenance and repairs on mechanical systems. Engineering plant and equipment to include internal combustion engines, hydraulic and Pneumatic systems, piping systems, boiler valves, pressure vessels etc. onboard ships and in shore-side workshops and installations.
•	Undertake fault finding on mechanical systems on board naval fleet as required.
•	Must be able to achieve acceptable standards of workmanship and productivity.
•	Must be able to work efficiently with minimum supervision.
•	Liaise and work with other trades/disciplines as necessary.
•	Participate fully in any Labour Management Scheme to include completing timesheets, job dockets etc.
•	Interpret detailed engineering drawings and specifications.
•	Carry communication devices (mobile phones, pagers, two-way radios) when required to facilitate safe and efficient working practices.
•	Report performance issues relating to mechanical services, engineering plant and equipment to the appropriate supervisor.
•	Undertake technical training courses as necessary and participate fully in the organisation’s safety program.
•	Use all relevant tools, machinery and equipment to comply with current Health and Safety legislation. Fully understand all relevant Health and Safety issues appertaining to the relevant trade discipline.
•	Assist, as is necessary, in the investigation of accidents and dangerous occurrence with the department.
•	Carry out all work in accordance with the department’s generic Risk Assessments and non-generic Risk Assessments as and when required.
