About the Role These Youth Work Assistant positions will support the delivery of sports, education, and youth development programmes within Portlaoise Youth Project. All of our youth work staff are based in designated disadvantaged areas across the Midlands region, including Athlone, Mullingar, and Tullamore. & Portlaoise Key Responsibilities Include: Supervising and supporting young people aged 10 to 21 years Assisting in the planning and delivery of youth programmes and group activities in areas such as: Sport Health Promotion Education Music Hobbies and Interests Regional and National Youth Events Supporting programme facilitation, coaching, and administrative tasks Participating fully in training and development activities as part of the programme There will be opportunities to engage in specific areas of youth work such as Youth Justice, Mental Health, and Community Development. Training will be provided both on-the-job and through structured courses, with QQI certification levels from Level 4 to Level 6 available. Additionally, participants will gain experience in key areas such as work readiness, social issues, and life skills. Who Should Apply? We welcome applications from individuals with a genuine interest in working with young people. Experience—either voluntary or paid—in areas such as sport, education, hospitality, music, arts, or youth organisations (e.g. Scouts or youth clubs) is an advantage but not required.
