First Year Apprentice Vacancy Ideal Candidates: We’re looking for recent school leavers or students sitting the Leaving Cert this June who are not planning to attend college. This is an excellent opportunity to earn while you learn and gain a nationally recognised qualification. Apprentice Toolmaker – Job Overview:: As an apprentice Toolmaker, you will learn to build, maintain, and repair precision tools, components, dies, and special guiding and holding devices used in manufacturing and high tech industries.. Under the supervision of experienced toolmakers and engineers, the apprentice will develop the technical skills and gain hands on experience in machining,read blueprints, operate machinery, CAD/CAM design, and use measuring tools to ensure high-quality production, together with problem solving in a dynamic manufacturing environment.. Key Responsibilities: 1. Training & Skill Development: • Participate in a structured training programme combining on-the-job experience with formal education, leading to a Level 6 qualification on the National Framework of Qualifications. • Learn the fundamentals of toolmaking, including materials, technical drawings, and machine operation. • Assist in the manufacturing, maintenance, and repair of precision tools, jigs, fixtures, dies, and molds. • Learn to interpret technical drawings, CAD files, and specifications. • Gain proficiency in reading CAD models and using precision measuring tools and hand instruments. • Follow all safety procedures and company policies. • Document work and maintain accurate records of parts and processes. • Attend vocational training and complete coursework as part of the apprenticeship program. Machining: • Assist in setting up and operating a variety of manual equipment and CNC machines such as CNC lathes, grinders, milling machines, grinders, and EDM machines. Finishing Tasks: • Support post-machining processes including deburring, cleaning, polishing, drilling, and tapping of parts. Maintenance & Housekeeping: • Help maintain equipment through regular cleaning and basic servicing. • Perform basic machine maintenance and cleaning duties. • Ensure workspaces remain clean, safe, and well-organised. Quality Control: • Collaborate with the quality team to ensure all components meet strict tolerances and quality standards. • Conduct measurements and inspections using micrometers, calipers, and other precision tools. • Carry out measurements and complete inspection documentation. • Learn to use advanced measuring systems including CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines) and vision inspection tools. • Understand how to choose the correct tools, cutting speeds, and feed rates for different materials.
