Job Advertisement: News Editor Location: Dublin (On-site) Contract Type: Full-time Division: Editorial The Irish Catholic, Ireland’s leading religious newspaper, is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented News Editor to join our editorial team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role is shaping the voice and content of a national weekly publication with a dedicated readership. About the role: As News Editor, you will oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of our weekly print edition. You’ll work closely with our in-house team of reporters and journalists to ensure that stories are accurate, timely, and engaging, while also liaising with contributors and freelancers to maintain high editorial standards and meet tight print deadlines. Key responsabilities: - Manage and coordinate the editorial layout for the weekly newspaper. - Oversee the production schedule to ensure all content is submitted, edited, and finalised on time. - Lead and supervise in-house journalists and reporters. - Commission and communicate with freelance writers and external contributors. - Ensure content aligns with The Irish Catholic’s editorial values and audience expectations. - Maintain high standards of accuracy, grammar, and tone across all sections. Essential Requirements: - A degree in Journalism, Communications, Media, or a related field. - Minimum of 1 year of experience in a print newsroom environment. - Fluency in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, as The Irish Catholic is seeking to broaden its readership in line with the new multicultural face of the audience in Ireland, and Italian for Vatican-related news. - Excellent editorial judgement, strong leadership skills, and the ability to work under pressure. - Strong organisational abilities and attention to details. - A good understanding of the Catholic Church and current religious affairs is a distinct advantage.
