Job Title: Oracle Database Administrator Location: Athlone, Co. Westmeath (Hybrid Working minimum 3 days per week) Contract / Permanent: 12 Months with further Extension Start date: 3rd November 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter Role: The State Examinations Commission requires the services of a Senior Oracle Database Administrator with extensive experience in managing and supporting Oracle environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, administration, and enhancement of the State Exam Commission’s existing Oracle-based systems, which currently include: • Oracle Database 12.1.0.2.0 • Oracle Forms and Reports 11.1.1.7 • WebLogic Server 10.3.6.0 • Hyperion Production Reporting (SQR) 11.1.2.3 Key responsibilities include: • Day-to-day database administration, monitoring, and performance tuning of Oracle 12c environments. • Management and support of Oracle Forms and Reports and WebLogic Server, including deployments and troubleshooting. • Support and maintenance of Hyperion SQR reporting infrastructure. • Implementation and monitoring of robust backup and recovery procedures, including RMAN, Dataguard and Data Pump utilities. • Contribution to the enhancement and optimization of current systems to ensure performance, reliability, and scalability. • AIX system administration tasks related to the Oracle environment, including patching and resource management. • Business continuity and disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution. • Provision of documentation and knowledge transfer to internal IT staff, where required. Experience Level Required: • It is a mandatory requirement that the Resource proposed has the equivalent of Senior i.e. >7 years’ experience. No other experience levels will be accepted. • It is a mandatory requirement that the Resource proposed hold the following qualifications or equivalents: Oracle Certified in Database at Professional Level or above. Key Deliverable: The following non-exhaustive list of Key Deliverables are applicable to this Role. • Daily monitoring and maintenance of the Oracle Software Suite and AIX environment. • Proficient working across Oracle databases and applications, including Oracle 12c and 19c. • Troubleshooting and resolving database problems, including database tuning. • Determination of any shortcomings of database system and recommending improvements. • Assist with future database design and potential upgrade of our current Oracle Database and Middleware software stack. • Monitoring and maintaining of RMAN backups, including scheduling and retention changes as required. • Mentoring and facilitating skills transfer to SEC staff. • Facilitating the achievement of goals established for the projects to which assigned. • Any other tasks which are considered by the SEC to be appropriate to the role.
