This Work Placement Experience Programme provides Participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. This programme is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme or an ETB Training Allowance. Your eligibility for this programme will be verified by the Department as part of the application process.
This is a Work Experience Placement Programme so full training will be provided to the participant. We welcome someone on a work placement to gain experience as an Assistant General Operative. The participant will be mentored in customer service. Assisting the team to ensure standards are met and operating procedures are followed in identifying risk, Health & Safety and GDPR. The participant will be trained in maintaining a safe work area, clearing branches, debris. They will learn about refueling chainsaws and passing them safely to tree surgeon. They will assist with tree planting and pruning in a supervised environment. They will assist and learn about basic landscaping practices such as mowing, hedge trimming, weeding and other duties. The participant will receive all training and will be supported by a mentor on the placement. The participant will gain practical knowledge in a busy environment. The participant will learn how to work as part of a team with a good work ethic. As a General Operative, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals and be shown guidelines in practical experience, listed below: • Tree surgery support: assisting with pruning, felling, and site safety • Landscaping: planting, turfing, and garden maintenance • Use of tools and machinery: strimmer’s, hedge trimmers, chainsaws (training provided at a cost) • Site preparation and clean-up: loading/unloading materials, debris removal • Health & safety procedures: PPE use, risk assessments, safe work practices • Teamwork and communication: working effectively with crew members and clients • job documentation: basic record-keeping and reporting
This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection. This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP.
