This job requires demands a blend of technical riding ability, horsemanship, and practical experience with young and green horses. The candidate is required to have understanding how horses move and respond physically. Knowledge and experience in training principles like, groundwork, lunging, loose schooling and progressive training methods. They must be familiar with the use and maintenance of safety equipment, risk awareness. They must have the basic knowledge of facility management and equine nutrition. They need to have advanced riding ability and be confident in the saddle. We require at least 3+ riding experience specialising with young horses. They must have experience around all riding disciplines. They need to have the ability to bring horses along from unbroken to competition-ready. Experience in handling and backing young horses safely and calmly is a must. They need to be good at clear reporting to trainers on horse progress, temperament, and issues. Quick thinking in unpredictable situations, especially with green horses is essential. Ability to work within a yard team and take initiative when needed is key. We require proven experience with foals, yearlings, and horses in early stages of training. Familiarity with preparing horses for shows or sales is a bonus. Lastly they need to have a genuine love for working with horses and the stamina and strength to ride multiple horses daily and perform yard duties. Patience and resilience is key, especially important when working with unpredictable or nervous young horses.
Duties are:
- Preparing horses for sale, riding/washing/grooming
- Showing and presenting horses to customers
- Exercising jumpers and hunters
- Available to attend shows during the summer and hunts during the winter (not essential)
- Help exercise ponies
- Lunging horses and ponies
- General care of horses and ponies
- Help preparing them for shows / washing etc
- Help out with all general yard duties, mucking out, feeding, riding, handling, lunging, catching horses and turning them out etc..
