Farm Operative (Beef) — Immediate Start
Location: East Westmeath
Type: Full-time, permanent
Reports to: Farm Manager / Owner
Start: As soon as possible

About the role
We’re seeking a hands-on Farm Operative with experience in beef farming to support day-to-day operations. You’ll help care for livestock, operate machinery, and keep the yard and fields running safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities
Daily livestock care: feeding, bedding, watering, stock checks, and general welfare.
Assist with herd health: spotting early signs of illness, recording treatments, and following veterinary instructions.
Machinery operation: tractor work (feeding, topping, mucking out), loader/telehandler use, maintenance checks.
Fencing: repair, and maintenance of permanent and temporary fences.
Housing & yard: cleaning, bedding, slurry/effluent management, general upkeep.
Pasture management support: moving stock, setting up paddocks, water supply.
Keep accurate records (feeding, movements, remedies) in line with Department of Agriculture and Bord Bia requirements.
Follow farm safety, biosecurity and animal welfare standards at all times.
Support seasonal tasks (calving assistance, silage, dosing, weighing, TB tests), as required.

What we’re looking for (must-haves)
Beef farming experience (commercial setting preferred).
Confident and safe use of farm machinery and equipment.
Practical knowledge of housing, fencing, feeding, health and nourishment best practice.
Strong work ethic; reliable, organised and able to work independently or as part of a small team.
Full driving licence and own transport.
Right to work in Ireland and satisfactory references.

Nice to have
Telehandler/loader ticket; trailer licence (BE) desirable.
Experience with herd health records, animal remedies compliance, and QA schemes (e.g., SBLAS).
Basic maintenance skills (welding, plumbing, electrics) an advantage.

Hours & terms
Full-time; typical 40–48 hours/week with weekend/rota duties in busy periods.
Pay and terms negotiable based on experience and certifications.
PPE provided: training available where required.
