The Department of Defence invites applications for appointment to the position of Electrician. Location: Naval Base & Dockyard, Co Cork About the Job: The Maintenance Section in the Naval Service (Defence Forces Corps of Engineers) are responsible for the provision of new buildings and for the maintenance of existing buildings and infrastructure within the Defence Forces. The Electrician will form part of the civilian Barrack Foreman of Works Staff responsible for the maintenance of Defence Forces buildings and structures within the Naval Base & Dockyard. The Electrician will carry out repairs / improvement works / new electrical work to the DF building & housing stock and will work as part of a team covering all aspects of maintenance, with the flexibility to work between teams as workloads demand. He/she will report via the Barrack Foreman of Works to the unit commander Entry Requirements and Eligibility Candidates are required to: a. Essential (1) Be a fully trades qualified Electrician through SOLAS or equivalent body. (2) At least three (3) years relevant experience. (3) Fully understand the requirements of the National Rules for Electrical Installations (ETCI ET101). (4) Possess the qualifications necessary to be a Certified Qualifier and be prepared to undergo a Safe Electric Verification Testing and Certification Course and to issue completion certificates for electrical works on behalf of Dept of Defence. (5) Possess the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. (6) Possess the ability to prepare and maintain records, measure and record variations and read drawings. Desirable Skills/ Attributes: (1) Computer literate with a good working knowledge of email, Microsoft Word and Excel.
