Job Description
First Year Apprentice Vacancy

Aughinish Alumina, situated on a 1,300 acre site on the Shannon Estuary, is one of the leading industrial plants in Ireland. It is the largest Alumina Refinery in Europe, producing alumina product that is the primary raw material of aluminium. The company also has a Combined Heat & Power Plant. Aughinish Alumina has a history of continuous improvement and innovation and is considered to be a world leader in the industry. 

Aughinish Alumina is recruiting the following First Year Apprentices to start in Autumn 2026:

Electrical Instrumentation Apprenticeship (E/I) 

Each apprenticeship is for a period of four years (or for a period determined by the Standards Based Apprenticeship Scheme).

Those appointed will receive full training in their craft both onsite (in Aughinish) and in College (various locations).

Requirements:
* Candidates must be 17 years of age by 31st August 2026. 
 To join any MAMF or EI Apprentice programme, SOLAS require that applicants pass the Ishihara Colour Vision Test 24 plate edition.*

Minimum Qualifications:
* Grade D1/H5/O5 in five subjects in the Established Leaving Certificate examination – must include Maths and English
* Persons already serving an Apprenticeship are not eligible
* Persons sitting their Leaving Certificate in 2026 are eligible. Results can be forwarded when available.

What are we looking for?
* Enthusiastic individuals with a strong interest in engineering related subjects
* Good academic record - a good grade in maths and an interest in engineering is advantageous
* Good communicator & problem solver with a positive attitude
* The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
* Good work practices including safety awareness, timekeeping, tidiness and responsibility 
* As an E/I apprentice, you will need to be physically active and able to work with your hands
