Role Overview We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of a busy forecourt retail convenience store. This role is responsible for operational performance, fuel and margin analysis, stock control, cash flow oversight, and people management, ensuring the site operates efficiently, profitably, and in full compliance with regulatory standards. The successful candidate will have a strong retail background, excellent analytical skills, and hands-on experience managing high-volume retail or forecourt environments. Key Responsibilities Day-to-Day Operations Oversee the daily running of the forecourt and convenience store, ensuring smooth and efficient operations at all times Maintain high standards of customer service, cleanliness, and site presentation Ensure full compliance with health & safety, food safety, and forecourt operational standards Manage staff scheduling, rotas, performance, and on-site leadership Implement operational procedures and continuously improve efficiencies Fuel Operations & Analysis Monitor fuel sales, pricing, and volumes on a daily and weekly basis Carry out fuel margin analysis, identifying opportunities to improve profitability Manage fuel deliveries, reconciliation, and variance reporting Analyse market trends and competitor pricing to support pricing decisions Retail Margin & Stock Control Oversee stock levels across all departments, ensuring optimal availability and minimal wastage Conduct regular stock reviews, variance investigations, and margin analysis Manage supplier relationships, ordering, promotions, and pricing strategies Ensure accurate stock control processes are followed, including cycle counts and full stock takes Financial & Cash Flow Management Monitor daily cash flow, cash handling procedures, and banking controls Analyse sales reports, costs, and margins across fuel and shop categories Identify cost-saving opportunities and operational efficiencies Prepare operational and financial reports for senior management Team Leadership & Compliance Lead, train, and develop store management and staff teams Ensure compliance with employment legislation, company policies, and internal controls Promote a positive, accountable, and performance-driven culture Support recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing staff development Key Skills & Experience Proven experience in a forecourt, convenience retail, or multi-site retail management role Strong understanding of fuel operations, fuel pricing, and margin analysis Experience in stock management, shrink control, and retail KPI analysis Financial acumen with experience in cash flow management and reporting Strong leadership, organisational, and decision-making skills Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities Proficient in POS, fuel management systems, and retail reporting tools
