The successful candidate will be required to work in a busy environment constructing and repairing boundary walls. Tasks: Laying building materials, such as brick, structural tile, and concrete cinder, glass, gypsum, and terra cotta block to construct or repair walls, partitions, arches, sewers, and other structures. Measuring distance from reference points and marking guidelines on working surface to lay out work. Cutting, shaping and polishing granite, marble, slate and other stone for building, ornamental and other purposes. Examining drawings, photographs and specifications to determine job requirements. Marking and cutting stone using hammers, mallet and hand or pneumatic chisels. Spreading soft bed of mortar that serves as base and binder for block, using trowel. Placing, levelling and aligning bricks in mortar bed. Levelling, aligning and embedding stone in mortar and faces brick, concrete or steel frame with stone to make and repair structures. Removing excess mortar from face of block, using trowel. Applying mortar to end of block and positioning block in mortar bed. Tapping block with trowel to level, aligning, and embedding in mortar, allowing specified thickness of joint. Finishing mortar between brick with pointing tool or trowel. Breaking bricks to fit spaces too small for whole brick, using edge of trowel or brick hammer. Determining vertical and horizontal alignment of courses, using plumb bob, gaugeline, and level. Fastening brick or terra cotta veneer to face of structures, with tie wires embedded in mortar between bricks, or in anchor holes in veneer brick. Analysing and interpreting building plans. Interpreting work orders and determining the materials required. Measuring distance from reference points. Calculating angles and determining the vertical and horizontal alignment of courses. Fastening bricks with wire clamps or cement. Working safely on scaffolds and swing stages at various heights. Using equipment and tools effectively to perform basic construction tasks. Requirements Minimum 3 years of bricklayer experience. Good practical skills Ability to work accurately and in teams. Ability to read technical plans. Awareness of health and safety, analysing building plans, interpreting building plans, interpreting work orders, determining materials required, calculating angles. As this is a physical job, a good level of fitness is required.
