The Child and Family Agency was established on 1st January 2014 and is responsible for a range of statutory functions including provision of child protection, alternative care, specified regulatory services and a range of family support services. Further information is available on www.tusla.ie
The policy of the Child and Family Agency to enable children to live with their own families wherever possible and to support parents where necessary in fulfilling that role. In circumstances where this is not possible, Residential Care incl. Special Care remains a valuable option for children who cannot be cared for at home.
Entry requirements: 
	Be registered in the Social Care Workers Register maintained by the Social Care Workers Registration Board maintained by CORU.
or
	Hold a CORU approved Social Care Worker qualification and have applied for CORU registration (evidence of application will be necessary)
or 
Hold one of the following qualifications and be committed to a pathway towards Social Care education:
Youth and Community work qualification	
BA (Hons) Youth and Community Development
BA (Hons) Psychology
Addiction Studies (Level 7)
BA (Hons) Counselling and Addiction Studies
Disability Diploma (Primary Care)	
Degree in Social Science (minimum Level 7)
Purpose of role: This programme involves 3 months classroom-based learning followed by 3 months’ work placement in Tusla Special Care Unit in Dublin. The purpose of the post is to provide the employee with on the job learning opportunities as a work-based learner in social care with access to shadow a social care worker, learn social care skills while providing direct administration support to the social care services that seeks to improve the health and social wellbeing of the service users within the context of local communities and children’s residential and special care services. On successful completion of the 6-month programme and evidence of competency assessment, you will be offered a permanent contract of employment
Main duties and responsibilities: 
 To participate in the development and implementation of Care and Placement Plans and to ensure appropriate recording of same.
 To promote the rights and responsibilities of each child/young person within the centre.
 To promote physical, emotional, social and religious welfare of each young person in care.
 To encourage attendance at school, training centres, medical and clinical appointments.
 To be responsible for the organisation of personal documents, arrangements, information and finance on behalf of the young person.
 To liaise with the parent, family, general services and other agencies on behalf of the young person.
 To attend meetings in relation to the care and developments of the young person.
To undertake various aspects of home management including the household budget, upkeep and cleaning.
