This Work Placement Experience Programme provides Participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. This programme is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme or an ETB Training Allowance. Your eligibility for this programme will be verified by the Department as part of the application process.


This Site Assistant placement offers practical, hands-on exposure to residential construction and renovation projects. The participant will assist with general site duties while gaining insight into multiple trades and construction processes. The role is designed to provide broad industry experience rather than specialised skilled work.
The successful participant will work alongside experienced tradespeople and site supervisors, developing an understanding of how construction projects are organised, delivered, and managed.

The participant will support day-to-day site activities, which may include:
- Assisting with general site preparation and organisation
- Handling and moving materials and tools
- Maintaining a clean and safe working environment
- Supporting tradespeople with basic non-skilled tasks
- Observing and learning about different stages of construction
- Following site safety procedures and instructions

Learning & Development Opportunities
This placement is intended to provide broad construction industry exposure. Depending on project requirements, the participant may have the opportunity to observe and gain introductory experience in:
- Carpentry & Joinery
- Plumbing & Services Installation
- Groundworks & External Works
- General Building & Renovation Activities
- Construction Site Coordination
- Office & Administrative Support Tasks

The emphasis is on learning, observation, and skills development rather than productivity targets.

This role may be suitable for individuals who:

- Want exposure to multiple aspects of site and office work
- Are punctual, reliable, and safety-conscious
- No prior construction experience is required.

Important Notes:
This is a work experience placement under the Work Placement Experience Programme. It is not a contract of employment. The focus is on learning and development. 
This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection. This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP.
