Atlantic Flight Training Academy (AFTA) are currently seeking an experienced Light Aircraft Avionics Technician to join our maintenance team, supporting a varied fleet of light aircraft in a dynamic and professional aviation environment. This is a hands-on technician role working across aircraft including: Diamond DA40 NG, Diamond DA42 NG & TDI, Cessna 172 G1000 & G1000 TDI, Slingsby T67 and Vulcanair P68C. AFTA operate this fleet of aircraft training domestic and international cadets for some of the world’s largest airlines and using the Vulcanair P68C aircraft to support our aerial survey division. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and testing of avionics and electrical systems, ensuring aircraft are maintained to the highest standards of safety and compliance. The ideal candidate will be a driven individual, with a keen interest in aviation and experience with light aircraft avionics. Responsibilities Perform troubleshooting, fault finding, and rectification of avionics and electrical systems. Carry out scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on aircraft avionics systems. Inspect, test, repair, and replace avionics components including: Communication and navigation systems Transponders and ADS-B systems Flight instrumentation Autopilot systems Electrical wiring and distribution systems Install and modify avionics equipment in accordance with approved data. Use appropriate test equipment to diagnose faults accurately and efficiently. Ensure all work is completed in compliance with applicable regulatory and safety standards. Complete accurate maintenance documentation and records. Support defect investigations and liaise with engineering management as required. Successful candidate requirements Proven experience working as a Light Aircraft Avionics Technician. While the candidate does not have to have any formal qualifications in aircraft avionics previous experience is essential. Practical experience in light aircraft electrical and avionics systems maintenance. While not essential, it is highly desirable to have specific experience on Diamond DA40 NG, Diamond DA42 NG & TDI, Cessna 172 G1000 & G1000 TDI, Slingsby T67 or Vulcanair P68C aircraft types. Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and maintenance documentation. Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills. Good written and verbal communication skills in English. Experience with Garmin or similar integrated avionics suites. Strong analytical and fault-finding ability. High attention to detail and commitment to safety. Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team. Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload. Professional and proactive attitude. Ability to hold airport restricted zone access. Flexibility to complete tasks outside of normal working hours to ensure program deadlines are met.
