This Work Placement Experience Programme provides Participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. This programme is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme or an ETB Training Allowance. Your eligibility for this programme will be verified by the Department as part of the application process.


This is a Work Experience Placement Programme, so full training will be provided to the participant. We welcome someone who would like to gain experience as a General Operative.

The participant will be mentored and will gain new skills on a day to day basis in tree cutting, wood chipping, climbing, and health and safety. They will gain experience in assisting staff in a professional and helpful manner.

The participant will learn how to handle any reports of faults or defects on chainsaw equipment and how to follow our procedures regarding health and safety. They will assist the team to ensure that areas cut are free of debris and hazards. They will also help with moving and arranging machinery and equipment.

Training will be provided on how to maintain a safe workspace and how to report any hazards to staff and management. The participant will receive training and support from a mentor throughout the placement. They will also learn how to work as part of a team with a strong work 
 
This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection. This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP. 

The participant will receive formal/informal training and mentoring in the following:

Formal Training:

•	Health & Safety Best practice
•	Guidance and training in using chainsaws 
•	Guidance and training climbing trees 

Informal Training:

•	Identifying Risks
•	Work Communication Skills
•	Working as part of a team
