A construction worker performs a wide range of physically demanding manual tasks on building sites. Duties include preparing job sites, loading and unloading materials, operating heavy machinery and hand tools, erecting scaffolding, digging trenches, and assisting skilled tradespeople to ensure projects are completed safely and on schedule

Core Responsibilities
Site Preparation & Cleanup: Clearing debris, removing hazards, and setting up barricades, ramps, and scaffolding.
Material Handling: Transporting, loading, and unloading building materials and tools, and keeping tradespeople supplied as needed.
Site Work: Digging trenches, compacting earth, mixing and pouring concrete, and assisting with laying foundations and drainage pipes.
Equipment Operation: Safely using a variety of hand and power tools (drills, saws, jackhammers) and operating heavy machinery (digger trucks, excavators, or bulldozers).
Safety Compliance: Following strict Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations and using personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Qualifications & Requirements
Physical Fitness: The ability to perform strenuous, repetitive tasks for long periods, often outdoors in all weather conditions. Training & Certification: In the UK, many contractors and main housebuilders require workers to hold a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card, which verifies the worker’s training and health/safety knowledge.
Team work & Communication: The ability to follow verbal and written instructions, read basic blueprints, and collaborate effectively with site managers and craftworkers
