Eligibility to participate on CE is generally linked to those who are 21 years or over and in receipt of a qualifying social welfare payment for 1 year or more or 18 years and over for certain disadvantaged groups. Your eligibility will have to be verified by the Department.

Applicants should supply suitable character references and be prepared to complete a Garda vetting application form.



Duties

This is a developmental opportunity, no experience necessary. Accredited training will be provided to support your career. 

General Duties

•	Collecting clients of the Day Centre and transporting them to and from the Centre.
•	Delivery of Meals-on-Wheels as required.

Warm, friendly and caring environment for clients

•	Be observant and alert to the needs of the clients and attend to them.
•	Maintain a friendly disposition.
•	Alert management to any issues that may cause problems or misunderstandings.
•	Keep a written log of all incidents, accidents, injuries, or reason for complaint and file a copy with the Manager.

Transporting clients

•	Provide a comfortable, caring and relaxed atmosphere.
•	Assist clients who have mobility problems if they require assistance.
•	Ensure driver and passenger safety at all times.
•	Obey the rules of the road and drive in a safe manner having particular regard to the passengers’ comfort.
•	Agree the collection routes and times with the Manager.
•	Notify the manager as soon as possible of any deviation from agreed routes or schedules.
•	Should have complete knowledge of the address of each collection and drop off point.

Assisting clients on outings and day trips
•	Ensure the clients are comfortable and at ease.
•	Ensure the clients are in a safe environment, appropriate to their needs.
•	Ensure the safety of passengers when getting onto or alighting from the vehicle.
