To operate and monitor Anaerobic Digester (AD) and Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) systems in a safe, efficient, and compliant manner. The operator will ensure smooth running of the shift operations, maintaining environmental standards, optimising treatment efficiency, and supporting sustainability objectives. Key Responsibilities: Operations & Monitoring Operate and monitor AD and ETP equipment (pumps, blowers, digesters, aeration systems, clarifiers, centrifuges, etc.). Record operational data (flow rates, pH, COD, BOD, MLSS, biogas generation, sludge levels, etc.) at defined intervals. Ensure continuous treatment of wastewater and biogas recovery in line with regulatory and organisational standards. Conduct routine plant checks, report abnormalities, and take corrective actions where possible. Process Control Carry out regular sampling and basic analysis (pH, TSS, COD, BOD, VFA, alkalinity balance, etc.). Adjust operational parameters to maintain optimal treatment efficiency and compliance with discharge consents. Assist in maximising biogas yield from the anaerobic digester while minimising downtime. Safety & Compliance Follow all safety protocols, including confined space entry, chemical handling, and PPE usage as per company BPS Maintain compliance with local environmental regulations and company policies. Support audits, inspections, and statutory reporting as required. Maintenance Support Perform routine first-level maintenance (cleaning strainers, lubrication, basic troubleshooting). Report equipment malfunctions and support maintenance teams during breakdowns or preventive maintenance. Shift & Documentation Maintain accurate shift logs, process records, and daily reports. Handover detailed shift reports to the incoming operator. Escalate critical issues promptly to the Team Leader / Plant Manager. Qualifications & Skills: Education: Minimum GCSE (Pass) in Maths, English, and Science, Further education desired but not essential. Experience: 1–3 years in operating AD, ETP, or similar utilities (preferred). Desirable Skills: Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes (biological, chemical, physical). Familiarity with anaerobic digestion and biogas handling. Ability to operate SCADA/DCS systems (if applicable). Basic laboratory testing skills. Good problem-solving, communication, and teamwork.
