This Work Placement Experience Programme provides Participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. This programme is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme or an ETB Training Allowance. Your eligibility for this programme will be verified by the Department as part of the application process.
This placement offers hands‑on experience in a busy warehouse environment specialising in outdoor machinery and equipment. The Participant will learn under supervision how to safely receive, check, and organise deliveries of lawnmowers, chainsaws, power tools, oils, and accessories. Training includes manual‑handling skills, stock rotation, inventory control, and the safe storage of fuels. They will also gain experience, preparing machinery for the shop floor, managing back‑stock areas, and supporting the workshop by organising parts and repair items. This placement is ideal for anyone looking to build practical warehouse, logistics, and machinery‑handling skills in a real retail setting.
This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection. This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP. Formal Training: • Forklift training • Manual handling • Customer service (ecollege) Informal Training: • Stock Handling — Learning how to receive deliveries, check items against order sheets, and organise stock for the shop floor • Product Labelling — Pricing, tagging, and preparing items for display. • Cash Handling — Using the till, processing card payments, and handling receipts. • Product Knowledge — Learning the basics of lawnmower types, chainsaw safety features, oils, spark plugs, and accessories. • Merchandising — Setting up displays for machinery, PPE, tools, and seasonal outdoor equipment. • Returns & Repairs Intake — Logging items brought in for repair or service and communicating with the workshop.
