Longford, Eircode N39 VN23 Type: Full-time, Permanent Hours: 39 per week Salary: €36,605 per annum Kiernan Structural Steel Ltd, a specialist in structural steel fabrication and erection, seeks a Engineering Technician to join our team. The Engineering Technician provides specialised technical support to steel fabrication and metal structure processes, applying engineering knowledge to ensure the efficiency, quality, and safety of operations. The role combines elements of civil engineering (interpretation of designs and structures) with mechanical maintenance of equipment, contributing to the optimisation of workflows in a heavy industrial environment. Key Responsibilities: Read and interpret technical drawings, engineering specifications, and job cards to ensure accuracy in the fabrication and assembly of metal components. Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on machines, material-handling equipment, and production tools, ensuring their availability and compliance with safety standards. Support the implementation of fabrication processes, including quality inspections, measurements, and adjustments to steel structures and plates. Collaborate with engineers and supervisors in troubleshooting technical issues, continuous improvement, and optimisation of production layouts. Operate and oversee the safe use of equipment (overhead cranes, forklifts, specialised tools), with emphasis on engineering procedures. Maintain technical records, maintenance reports, and documentation of compliance with health, safety, and quality standards. Participate in training and safety initiatives, applying civil engineering principles to structural risk analysis. Skills, Experience & Requirements: Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) with practical experience in mechanical maintenance and industrial fabrication. Strong knowledge of technical drawing interpretation, fabrication standards, and maintenance of heavy equipment. Ability to work in a physically demanding environment with strong problem-solving skills. Certifications in equipment operation (crane/forklift) are an advantage.
