SAOL was the first women's-specific, drug rehabilitation community project in Ireland. Working in Dublin’s North inner city. SAOL is focused on improving the lives of women affected by addiction and poverty. We were founded in 1995 and became a registered charity in 2008. We use a trauma-informed, feminist informed harm reduction approach in our work.

Overall purpose of role: 
-T o work alongside experienced staff and keyworkers and assist in daily management of the building, social spaces, and delivery of our programmes. 
- To assist experienced staff in delivering a safe and healthy environment for our participants.
- To have a clear understanding and work within SAOLs policies and procedures, while assisting experienced workers with tasks and facilitation.
- To build on and reflect on your own practice with support and guidance from experienced staff.
- Engage with all training provided.

Experience gained in this role:
• The Participant will gain practical experience of working within a women-centred drug and alcohol service and develop an understanding of the complex needs and experiences of women who use the service.

• The participant will develop knowledge and experience of supporting participants in a safe, respectful, and non-judgemental environment, while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.

• The participant will assist experienced staff and keyworkers, gaining insight into effective support, communication, relationship-building and person-centred practice.

•	The participant will develop an understanding of the impact of substance use, trauma, social disadvantage, and other complex needs on women’s lives, and how these can influence engagement with services.

• The participant will gain experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team and develop an understanding of partnership working, referrals and signposting to relevant supports.

• They will develop practical skills in engaging with participants, facilitating activities and programmes, and contributing to the day-to-day running of the service.

• They will develop an understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, risk assessment, health and safety, and the importance of working within organisational policies and procedures.

• They will develop confidence in reflecting on and evaluating your own practice, using supervision, feedback, and guidance from experienced staff to support ongoing professional development.


Daily outcomes and objectives:
• Develop confidence in engaging with women accessing the service in a respectful, empathetic, and non-judgemental manner.
• Develop an understanding of the day-to-day needs and experiences of women affected by substance use and other complex social and personal circumstances.
• Observe and learn from experienced staff and keyworkers about effective communication, relations 

This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection. This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP.

Training plan breakdown:
All job-specific training will be provided by experienced members of staff, with training delivered across the team according to each staff member’s area of specialist knowledge and expertise. This will provide the participant with a broad understanding of the different roles and functions within the service, while ensuring that learning is supported by staff with relevant experience and skills. 
Training will be provided through a combination of observation, practical learning, guidance, supervision, and ongoing feedback. Each week can be planned and changed to fit with the participants learning objectives for that week. Ensuring the participant gets set time in each group.
