We are seeking an Electrical Project Engineer to join our growing Engineering team. Reporting to the Senior Design Manager, with day-to-day accountability to the Design Manager, this is a technical role responsible for coordinating the delivery of electrical design outputs across a number of municipal wastewater engineering projects.
The successful candidate will be a technically strong, delivery-focused engineer who can work autonomously and coordinate multidisciplinary design interfaces, while upholding our commitment to design quality, Health & Safety, and client satisfaction. Please note the role is primarily based in the Thames Water region but may occasionally require travel for working on projects for our other regulated water clients in the UK.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The main duties and responsibilities of the Electrical Design Engineer are outlined as follows:
Coordination and review of electrical outline and detailed design submissions.
Working with design teams in the production of design and construction drawings/ documentation.
Liaising between Mechanical & Electrical Designers and Civil & Structural Designers
Preparation of scope documents and tender packages.
Reviewing subcontract tender and contract pricing
Developing Electrical Design Deliverables – Single Line Diagram’s, Cable Schedules, Motor & Instrumentation Schedules and P&ID’s.
Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors and composition of purchase orders and sub-contract agreements.
Management of site personnel and subcontractors ensuring that work is conducted in line with design documentation and in accordance with contract programme.
Completion of quality checks to ensure works are in line with design outputs and ready for commissioning works.
Preparation of commissioning documentation and supervision of commissioning process.
Co-ordination of project close-out stages including handover to the end user.
Conduct meetings, reviews, prepare documentation and assist the PM in preparation of contractual communication to owner and subcontractors.
Identify and promote value engineering opportunities to achieve cost savings and programme efficiencies without compromising quality or performance.
Engage with the construction team to ensure designs are practical and minimise risks during construction.
Ensure all designs comply with relevant UK Water Industry standards, regulations (e.g., CESWI, WIMES), British Standards, Eurocodes, and client-specific requirements.
Ensure adherence to company design management procedures and quality assurance processes.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, design consultants, subcontractors, and regulatory bodies.
Effectively communicate design progress, challenges, and solutions to all relevant stakeholders.
Identify design-related risks and opportunities, contributing to the project risk register.
Implement mitigation strategies to minimise design risks.
