This Work Placement Experience Programme provides Participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. This programme is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme or an ETB Training Allowance. Your eligibility for this programme will be verified by the Department as part of the application process. 


We are pleased to offer a Work Placement Experience Programme (WPEP) placement within our barber shop, providing the participant with an opportunity to gain practical experience, workplace confidence, and customer service skills under the supervision of experienced barbers. The participant will not be responsible for providing unsupervised services or undertaking core business functions.

During the 6 months the participant will be trained and gain experience in the following:
* Observe experienced barbers carrying out haircuts and beard grooming.
* Prepare workstations before and after each client.
* Clean and sterilise barbering tools and equipment.
* Welcome clients and assist with appointment scheduling.
* Learn consultation skills and client communication.
* Assist with shampooing and preparing clients for services.
* Practice clipper work, scissor techniques, fades, tapers and beard trimming under supervision.
* Learn styling and finishing techniques using barbering products.
* Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
* Assist with stock organisation and general shop duties.
* Receive daily guidance, feedback and supervision from the supervising barber.
 
This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection. This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP. 

20 Hours Accredited/Sector-Recognised Training
* Infection Prevention & Control in Barbering (or equivalent hygiene course) – 5 hours.
* Health & Safety Awareness – 5 hours.
* Customer Service Skills – 5 hours.
* Manual Handling (or another recognised workplace course) – 5 hours.

40 Hours informal training:
* Client consultation techniques.
* Clipper and scissor control.
* Skin fades and taper fades.
* Beard trimming and shaping.
* Hair styling and finishing.
* Health, safety and hygiene procedures.
* Equipment cleaning and maintenance.
* Customer service and communication.
* Appointment management.
* Daily opening and closing procedures.
* Product knowledge and recommendations.
