Eligibility to participate on CE is generally linked to those who are 21 years or over and in receipt of a qualifying social welfare payment for 1 year or more or 18 years and over for certain disadvantaged groups. Your eligibility will have to be verified by the Department.

Job Purpose
The Community Grounds Person is responsible for maintaining the appearance, cleanliness, and safety of community grounds and outdoor facilities. The role helps ensure that parks, green spaces, sports areas, and public amenities are well maintained and welcoming for residents and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
•	Mow lawns and maintain grassed areas.
•	Trim hedges, shrubs, and trees where appropriate.
•	Plant and care for flowers, plants, and landscaped areas.
•	Remove weeds and litter from outdoor spaces.
•	Sweep and keep pathways, car parks, and entrances clean and safe.
•	Empty outdoor bins and dispose of waste responsibly.
•	Carry out minor repairs to fences, gates, benches, and other outdoor equipment.
•	Maintain sports pitches and recreational areas, where applicable.
•	Operate and maintain grounds maintenance equipment safely.
•	Report any hazards, vandalism, or maintenance issues promptly.
•	Assist with setting up and taking down equipment for community events.
•	Follow all health and safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Skills and Experience
•	Previous experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, landscaping, or a similar role is desirable.
•	Ability to use grounds maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
•	Good practical and problem-solving skills.
•	Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
•	Reliable, punctual, and hardworking.
•	Good communication skills.
•	Basic knowledge of health and safety practices.
Physical Requirements
•	Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
•	Capable of lifting, carrying, and moving equipment safely.
•	Able to perform physically demanding tasks throughout the working day.

Working Hours
Working hours are 19.5 hours per week or we can consider a 39 hour week, on a week on and week off basis.  Hours may vary depending on seasonal requirements and community events and may occasionally include evenings or weekends.
Eligibility
This position is supported under the Department of Social Protection’s Community Employment Programme. To be eligible, you must: 
• Be aged 21 or over 
• Be in receipt of a qualifying social welfare payment for at least 12 months or be a qualifying adult on a claim 
• Meet CE scheme eligibility criteria (We can or your local Intreo office can check if you meet this criteria) 
CE placements are designed to be stepping stones back to the workforce and include access to training and support. 
Training Provided
Participants will have the opportunity to undertake certified and on-the-job training to enhance their skills and future employment prospects.
