Job Title: Dairy Farm Assistant Company: Park South Farms Ltd Work Location: Doneraile, Co. Cork Salary: €36,605 per annum Working Hours: 39 hours per week Job Description The Dairy Farm Assistant will support the day-to-day operations of the dairy farm, ensuring high standards of animal welfare, herd health, hygiene, and farm maintenance. The successful candidate will work closely with the farm management team to maintain the efficient operation of the dairy enterprise while complying with health and safety procedures and best farming practices. Key Responsibilities Assist with the daily milking of the dairy herd using appropriate milking procedures and equipment. Move and manage livestock safely during milking, grazing, and housing. Assist with calf rearing, including feeding, monitoring health, and maintaining clean calf housing. Support calving activities, including observing cows, assisting where appropriate, and ensuring the wellbeing of both cows and calves. Monitor animal health and welfare, identifying signs of illness, injury, lameness, or mastitis, and reporting concerns promptly. Administer routine treatments, vaccinations, and medicines under the direction of farm management and in accordance with animal health protocols. Carry out mastitis prevention procedures, foot bathing, and basic lameness treatments. Feed livestock and ensure continuous access to clean water. Maintain clean and hygienic cow sheds, calf sheds, milking parlours, and other farm facilities. Bed livestock housing using appropriate materials and maintain high hygiene standards. Assist with fencing repairs. Operate and safely use farm tools and equipment for routine tasks. Carry out hedge cutting, grass strimming, weed control, and spraying as required. Follow all health and safety procedures and maintain accurate standards of farm hygiene and biosecurity. Undertake any other reasonable farm duties consistent with the position of Dairy Farm Assistant. Requirements Previous experience working on a dairy farm is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided where necessary. Genuine interest in dairy farming and animal welfare. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Physically capable of carrying out manual farm duties. Reliable, hardworking, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and public holidays when required.
