This Work Placement Experience Programme provides Participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. This programme is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme or an ETB Training Allowance. Your eligibility for this programme will be verified by the Department as part of the application process.


Applicants should supply suitable character references and be prepared to complete a Garda vetting application form.

Disability Support involves working with adults with physical and sensory disabilities as they develop skills to live more independently. 
As a Disability Support Assistant, you will learn from the tutor and students how best to accommodate each student's individual needs.
You will shadow the tutor in providing these supports and, as you gain confidence and experience, with supervision you will assist individual students through scribing, note-taking and practical tasks such as cookery, shopping and using public transport.
With training and support, you will become familiar with the day-to-day running of a training programme, assisting with the development of individual learning plans, tailoring training to individual needs and providing support to students.
You will learn new skills in developing and implementing activities and supporting students to participate in these activities. 
You will receive training in the use of equipment and workplace health and safety procedures.
You will be guided in how best to support individual learners as they develop their skills. This experience will enhance your communication, interpersonal and IT skills. You will also be assigned a mentor to support you throughout your placement and help ensure a positive work experience.
 
This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection. This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP.
