Role Purpose
Milish Bakery is seeking an experienced, hands-on Production Packing Room Supervisor to manage the day-to-day operation of our packing area.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that products are packed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards, while achieving production targets and minimising downtime and waste.
This is a hands-on supervisory position. The Packing Room Supervisor will be expected to work alongside the team when required, troubleshoot packing issues and maintain an efficient flow of product through the packing operation.
Strong practical experience with flow-wrapping equipment and high-speed food packing operations is particularly important for this role.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the packing team.
Ensure the packing room operates safely, efficiently and in accordance with the production plan.
Set up, operate and oversee flow-wrapping equipment to achieve efficient production runs.
Ensure correct machine settings, film alignment, sealing, cutting and product presentation.
Carry out and oversee product changeovers while minimising changeover time and production downtime.
Identify and resolve routine flow-wrapper and packing-line problems quickly and effectively.
Work hands-on with the packing team during busy periods, breakdowns, changeovers or other operational requirements.
Allocate employees effectively across packing lines according to production requirements.
Monitor line speed, throughput, downtime and overall packing efficiency.
Ensure products are packed to the correct specification, weight, presentation and labelling requirements.
Monitor and reduce packaging waste, product waste and unnecessary downtime.
Ensure packaging materials are available and correctly used.
Complete production, traceability and packing documentation accurately.
Ensure good housekeeping and hygiene standards are maintained throughout the packing area.
Ensure employees comply with food safety, HACCP, allergen, hygiene, PPE and Health & Safety requirements.
Conduct start-up checks and ensure equipment is safe and ready for production.
Escalate mechanical or technical problems promptly to Maintenance and Production Management.
Train, coach and support packing operatives in correct working methods and machine operation.
Monitor employee performance, attendance, timekeeping and adherence to workplace standards.
Communicate effectively with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Hygiene and other departments.
Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving productivity, quality, waste and overall packing-room performance.
Experience & Skills Required
3–5 years' relevant experience within a production or packing environment, preferably within food manufacturing, bakery or FMCG.
Previous experience supervising or leading a packing or production team.
Strong practical experience operating and setting up flow-wrapping machinery.
