This Work Placement Experience Programme provides Participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. This programme is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme or an ETB Training Allowance. Your eligibility for this programme will be verified by the Department as part of the application process.


As a Barista & Front of House Assistant you will gain practical experience in a busy café environment while developing key hospitality and customer service skills. Participants will receive training in café opening and closing procedures, stock replenishment, merchandising and display standards, and maintaining a clean, organised workspace. The placement also provides hands-on experience in food service, table clearing, and ensuring customer areas are welcoming and well-presented. 
This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection. This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP.

Formal Training:
•	Food Safety and Hygiene Training
•	Health and Safety Awareness Training
•	Customer Service Training
•	Basic Barista Skills Training
•	Manual Handling Training

Informal Training:
•	On-the-job coaching in customer service and front-of-house operations
•	Shadowing experienced baristas to learn coffee preparation, milk steaming, and drink presentation techniques
•	Practical instruction in preparing teas, cold drinks, açaí bowls, and other menu items
•	Training in café opening and closing routines
•	Learning stock replenishment and display presentation standards
•	Guidance on maintaining a clean, organised, and efficient café environment
•	Hands-on experience in food service, table clearing, and customer area presentation
