This Work Placement Experience Programme provides Participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. This programme is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme or an ETB Training Allowance. Your eligibility for this programme will be verified by the Department as part of the application process.
Applicants should supply suitable character references and be prepared to complete a Garda vetting application form. This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Participants will gain practical experience in a charity retail environment and an understanding of how charity shops support the work of Sue Ryder Foundation Ireland. During the placement the participant will learn and gain experience in: • Retail and customer service skills • Communication and interpersonal skills • Cash handling and use of computerised till systems • Stock management and retail merchandising • Health and safety and safe working practices • Teamwork and working with colleagues and volunteers • Time management, organisation and reliability • Developing confidence when communicating with customers and the public • Understanding workplace expectations and professional conduct • Developing good work habits and transferable skills that can support future employment • Understanding of the role of Sue Ryder charity shops and how fundraising supports independent living for older people in our community.
This is a training and work experience opportunity, no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection. The participant will receive formal/informal training and mentoring in the following: Formal/Accredited Training: • WPEP QQI Work Experience Module • Till, cash handling and payment systems • Customer service and retail skills • Health and safety and other relevant training provided through the programme Informal/On-the-Job Training: • Preparing, pricing and displaying stock • Merchandising and window displays • Customer care and communication skills • Time management • Teamwork • Adaptability and problem solving • Stock control • General charity shop operations
