This Work Placement Experience Programme provides Participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. This programme is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme or an ETB Training Allowance. Your eligibility for this programme will be verified by the Department as part of the application process.


As part of the placement programme the successful participants will be trained in all aspects of the daily running and operations of a busy Restaurant. As a Kitchen Assistant, you will play a crucial part in supporting and maintaining a busy work environment while gaining valuable hands-on experience in maintaining a high standard of hygiene within the centre and supporting all aspects of the kitchen area.
This placement is designed to provide you with practical skills and knowledge in food storage, hygiene management, stock management, and HACCP protocols. Participants will gain exposure to industry-standard practices and procedures that can be applied in future roles and will benefit from a supportive learning environment with guidance from experienced professionals in the field.

The participants will be trained in the following:
•       Maintaining a high standard of service provision
•       Appropriate use of materials and equipment.
•       Preparing & restocking of canteen/kitchen area for students, staff and visitors.
•       Maintaining hygiene conditions of canteen/kitchen and other related areas
•       Minimising Health & Safety risks while undertaking duties.
•       Reporting defects or hazards on-site to management
•       Adhering to good practice regarding hygiene, health and safety, and HACCP procedures. 
This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection. This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP.

Formal Training:
Manual Handling
HACCP training - accredited
Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) training
Stock rotation training

Workspace hygiene
