Horticulture Operatives carry out practical activities and assist in nurseries or greenhouses for the production of horticultural crops.

   =>Essential Skills and Competences: execute fertilisation, grow plants, harvest crop, maintain storage facilities, maintain the greenhouse, monitor fields, nurse plants, prepare planting area, prepare planting area for planting, propagate plants, prune plants, store crops, store products, supervise hygiene procedures in agricultural settings, use gardening equipment.

=> Optional Skills and Competences: assist equipment operation, coordinate greenhouse environment, direct the preparation of food, execute disease and pest control activities, keep task records, perform on-farm product processing, pick orders of agricultural products, promote farm products, select adequate packaging for food products, use agricultural information systems and database.

=> Optional knowledge: crop production principles, fertilisation principles, food safety principles, greenhouse types, horticulture principles, organic farming, pest control in plants, plant disease control, plant harvest methods, plant propagation, plant species, pruning techniques, pruning types, quality criteria for storage facilities, soil structure, types of storage facilities, watering principles.
