This Work Placement Experience Programme provides Participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. This programme is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme or an ETB Training Allowance. Your eligibility for this programme will be verified by the Department as part of the application process.
Applicants should supply suitable character references and be prepared to complete a Garda vetting application form. We are offering a supervised learning opportunity for a Volunteer Researcher to join our team. This placement is designed for individuals who want to develop research skills while contributing to social impact, health research, and evidence-based advocacy. You will work under the guidance of experienced team members, gaining hands-on experience in research methods, data analysis, and resource development. What You Will Learn and Do Learn how to conduct desk-based research on FASD-related topics, including health, education, and social care, with support from your supervisor. Receive guidance on reviewing academic papers, policy documents, and international best practices, and practice summarising key insights. Develop skills in compiling findings into clear reports and briefing notes, with feedback provided throughout. Assist in creating resources for families, professionals, and policymakers, learning best practices in communication and advocacy. Gain experience in data collection for ongoing projects and grant applications, supported by structured training. Collaborate with the FASD Ireland team, learning how research aligns with organisational goals and impacts policy and awareness campaigns. Skills You Will Develop Research and analytical techniques. Interpreting and summarising complex information. Professional written communication and attention to detail. Using Microsoft Office tools effectively (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Working independently while receiving regular supervision and feedback. Understanding health, social care, and advocacy contexts.
The participant will receive formal and informal training in the following areas: 20 hours Accredited Training: WPEP QQI Work Experience Module (this is the 20 hours accredited element of the programme) 40 hours training delivered by a mix of FASD Ireland and other recognised organisations: (15 hours in total) Training on Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) - including a 3 hour CPD accredited section - Introduction to Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder delivered by FASD Ireland and FASD in the Classroom (2 hours) delivered by FASD Ireland (6 hours in total) Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Scheme Monthly training webinars (1 hour) Canva Essentials - Delivered by Canva (3 Hours) How to use Canva - delivered by The Wheel (1.5 hours) Introduction to Children First (Child Protection) - delivered by HSE (1 hour) Let’s talk about suicide (Suicide Prevention Training) - delivered by HSE National Office for Suicide Prevention (0.5 hours) The Fundamentals of GDPR - delivered by HSE (12 hours) FASD Ireland Conference (over 2 days) - this training may be accredited - however we will not know until closer to the time. Held over 2 days.
