Support the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in advancing human rights, gender equality, climate justice, and environmental rights across Samoa, Cook Islands, and Niue. The role focuses on capacity building, stakeholder engagement, human rights advocacy, research, monitoring, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities
1. Strengthen Civic Space & Human Rights Networks
Support land and environmental human rights defenders affected by climate change.
Strengthen networks and participation of civil society actors in decision-making processes.
Contribute to regional human rights initiatives led by OHCHR Pacific.
2. Support Human Rights Mechanisms
Assist governments and partners in engaging with international human rights mechanisms, including:
Universal Periodic Review (UPR)
Treaty Bodies
Special Procedures
Help strengthen awareness and implementation of international human rights commitments.
3. Advance Gender Equality & Climate Justice
Support initiatives promoting women's rights and gender equality.
Contribute to work on environmental rights, climate justice, economic empowerment, education, and healthcare access.
Encourage inclusion of underrepresented groups, including women human rights defenders, Indigenous communities, and LGBTQIA+ groups.
4. Research, Reporting & Communications
Draft reports, briefings, statements, and communication materials.
Support internal and external reporting for OHCHR leadership and partners.
Assist with research, monitoring, and analysis of human rights developments.
5. Awareness Raising & Outreach
Support educational campaigns and public engagement activities.
Promote understanding of the links between human rights, climate change, environmental protection, and gender equality.


Education
Bachelor's degree in Human Rights, Law, Political Science, International Relations, Climate Change/Environment, Community Development, Sociology, Peace and Conflict Studies, or a related field.

Experience
No professional experience required.
Demonstrated interest or up to 2 years of experience in human rights, climate change, environmental issues, international relations, or related fields.
Experience in capacity building, data collection, advocacy, or community engagement is an advantage.
Previous volunteering, internships, or international exposure are highly valued.

Preferred Skills
Knowledge of international human rights instruments and mechanisms.
Strong research, analytical, and communication skills.
Ability to engage effectively with governments, civil society, and international partners.

Languages
Fluent English (desirable).
