MMD Construction Cork Ltd is seeking six experienced Block Layers to join its workforce for ongoing construction projects throughout County Cork.
Successful candidates will undertake block laying, bricklaying and related masonry works on commercial, industrial and residential construction projects.
Applicants must demonstrate a minimum of three years' practical block laying or bricklaying experience and be capable of performing the duties of the role to the required standards of quality, productivity and safety.
This is primarily an experience-based position. Formal qualifications are beneficial but are not essential where applicants can demonstrate the required practical skills and experience.
Key Duties
• Lay concrete blocks, bricks and other masonry materials in accordance with construction drawings and specifications.
• Measure and set out work accurately.
• Maintain correct line, level, plumb and alignment.
• Prepare and apply mortar and other masonry materials.
• Cut and shape blocks and bricks as required.
• Construct walls, partitions and other masonry structures.
• Ensure completed work meets required quality standards.
• Operate hand tools and power tools safely.
• Work closely with site supervisors and other trades.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
• Follow all company health and safety procedures.
• Carry out other reasonable duties related to block laying and masonry work.
Requirements
• Minimum 3 years' full-time practical block laying or bricklaying experience.
• Ability to read and follow construction drawings and specifications.
• Ability to accurately measure and set out work.
• Experience preparing and using mortar and masonry materials.
• Competence in laying blocks and completing masonry work to a professional standard.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a construction team.
• Knowledge of safe working practices on construction sites.
• Ability to use relevant tools and equipment safely.
• Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
No formal educational qualification is required.
Relevant trade qualifications, apprenticeships or construction-related training will be considered advantageous but are not essential.
Selection will be based on practical skills, relevant experience and the ability to perform the role safely and competently.
Employees will be assigned to various construction sites throughout County Cork according to project and operational requirements.
The position is offered on a full-time fixed-term basis for 24 months.
The guaranteed minimum working week is 39 hours.
Hours worked in excess of 39 hours per week will be treated as overtime and paid in accordance with the Construction Sector Sectoral Employment Order (SEO) and applicable legislation.
Wages are paid weekly in arrears.
